Happy Birthday, Jason!

Wow! I can’t believe 28 years ago I was born on Friday the 13th which also happened to be my big brother’s 7th birthday (you can do the math-jk)! Thanks for letting me share this day with you!

I am so blessed to have a wonderful, loving brother like you. You always put your family ahead of yourself and you are a great uncle to Jonathan and Emily! I can’t wait for Ethan to know how lucky he is to have his Uncle J!

Remember when mom and dad bought us jousting sticks—you were relentless. Remember when you decided to collect bugs for your bug collection late at night outside my window. April and I ran down the hall screaming and dad comes out with his gun! Remember when you strapped me to a kneeboard and said hold on—maybe that’s why I love the lake so much now. I remember all those times as a child I was so proud you were my big brother. Thank you for all the love, harassment, and memories. I hope you have a great birthday!

IT’S A BOY!

The day we have been waiting for since we found out we were pregnant finally came!  On Friday, Dirk and I, along with our moms had a sonogram and found out it is a BOY!

When the sonogram tech stopped over the parts—I knew immediately.  He was very proud.  I proclaimed that it’s a boy before she could say and Dirk’s eyes started to light up; then she typed BOY on the screen and at that moment I wish I had a camera.  Dirk’s mouth dropped and his eyes were as big as saucers!

Dirk desperately wanted a boy so a few days prior he had been prepping himself for a girl and I secretly wanted a boy so from the beginning told myself it was a girl!  Needless to say we are excited!  We are going to name him Ethan Daniel!  We love the name Ethan and Daniel is after my dad.

Here are pictures from the sonogram—It is kind of hard to see!

We went shopping on Friday and this is some of what we bought!  Gotta love the mom onesie!  He is gonna be a momma’s boy!  We are headed to first monday today to see what else we can find—there goes our budget :)

Great Cause

Tomorrow is the Susan G. Komen race for the cure in Dallas! It is going to be a great event and the foundation does such great things for women diagnosed with this horrible disease! The race starts a 7:30 am! I am proud to be a part of the top fundraising team--Laidley's Ladies. Dr. Laidley is a breast surgeon at Texas Oncology in Medical City and every year she pays the entry fee for any and all of her patients that would like to run/walk in the race! What an awesome thing! This year as of today the Laidley's Ladies team has raised $27,864.00--How incredible is that! This month is breast cancer awareness month so take a minute and say a prayer for all the courageous women fighting this disease! Good luck to all the runners/walkers tomorrow!

Rain Gauge

Everyone who knows Dirk, knows he is a handy-man!  He can do almost anything from remodeling a house to sewing to making fancy cakes!  I am pretty proud if you can’t tell.  Anyway, his most recent project was a rain gauge.  He likes to know how much rain we get and the last rain gauge we had broke, not to mention it was not very cute.

Let me back up a bit.  For those of you who know me, know I frequent First Monday (usually monthly).  The past few months I have noticed this rain gauge that I thought might be cute for one of our flower beds.  At first I thought it was cheesy but it grew on me.  So this past month, I stopped and actually took a good look and saw it was $21.  Not really that expensive but Dirk swore he could make one so we didn’t buy it.  I just assumed it would be one of those things that we always want to make but never get around to doing.  Much to my surprise on Monday evening after work, I came home and Dirk was assembling this rain gauge!  It turned out very cute and it is better than the one at First Monday because it is homemade!  Christmas is around the corner so let me know if I should put it on my list for you!!!

Notice the Crystal Water Droplet!

Good Report

I saw Dr. Martin yesterday and everything is good. My mom went with me and it was nice to have her there. We listened to the baby's heart beat which was strong and he/she was moving like crazy. I sometimes think I can feel the baby just not quite sure yet. The most exciting thing is that in 4 weeks we get to find out what we are having! I still think it is a girl but you never know. Dirk and I decided we would invite our moms to that sonogram--I think they are so excited. I took the day off and made an early appointment so we can go shopping afterwards. I will let everyone know how it goes!!!

Baby has a bed!

We got the crib yesterday. We were not planning on buying anything yesterday but we found the furniture we loved and then found out it was discontinued and only had 3 weeks to order. My Mom and Dad bought the crib for us and we bought the matching dresser and hutch. Thanks so much Mom and Dad--we love it!

The crib turns into a toddler bed, a day bed, and then a full size bed so he or she can take it to college!! The color is actually called espresso--a darker brown almost black.

This is the matching hutch and dresser. It is also in the darker color.

We got the furniture at Lone Star Baby. It is a great store with so many cribs and accessories. I Love it.

Life Changing Event!

It has been a long time since my last post. I have been too tired! On July 12th, Dirk and I found out we are going to be parents! We had been trying since December; however, when it actually happens it is a SHOCK and very surreal! Here's how I remember the day we found out.

I had spent the weekend in San Antonio with my sister and mom--a very fun girl's trip! I had shared with them that I should probably take a test. Needless to say they were ecstatic. I waited till Sunday evening to take one when I got home so Dirk could be there too. We quickly ate the dinner I had picked up on the way home and then I rushed to the bathroom. I called him in and he was equipped with his watch as the three minute timer! I could not stop staring at it as I watched the window turn pink. I knew quickly this was a positive test (two pink lines) as I had taken several before that were negative! Dirk insisted we had to wait the three minutes--so we did. After the time was up, he sat on our bed and said nothing as I began calling my mom and sister. Finally he said in a very serious voice, "We should repeat it." He was in disbelief. So I took another one--TWO PINK LINES! I continued with the phone calls! By the end of the week, I had taken 7 tests! They were all positive!

The first trimester was horrendous and I swore I would never do this again! I was nauseated all day everyday and I prayed to the porcelain gods at least twice a day! When I wasn't in the bathroom I wanted to be sleeping! It is much better now; however, I cannot eat any Mexican food--it comes right back up. If you know me at all, you know that is my FAVORITE! I couldn't even eat Matt's--the best Mexican food in DFW! Dirk and I are very excited and can't wait to find out what we are having. He really wants a boy and I would be happy with either. We should find out at the end of October. The little one is due March 19th. I will keep you posted!

In other news, Congratulations to Sarina and Brandon who got engaged! We are so excited for you! Congratulations to Daniel and Jessica who also got engaged! 2010 is going to be a very exciting and busy year! Happy late Birthday to Chelsea, Lindsey and Pam! Sorry I didn't do a special happy birthday post but you girls know how I feel about you! One last shout out, Congratulations to Ryan who graduated from UNT this summer! We are so proud of you!

Boating 101

Now that summer is here, Dirk and I spend a lot more time outside and on the lake. This year we decided to get a boat slip so that we could just jump in the boat and go. We don't have to worry about loading and unloading the boat on the trailer. I am really bad at backing the trailer down but that's for another blog. Anyway, this past Sunday we decided to go for a quick ride. We were going to get gas at the marina before leaving but had overheard the clerk say the pumps were acting up. So instead of further investigating whether or not they had gas we decided to head out and travel across lake tawakoni to another marina that has a gas pump. For those of you who know Tawakoni--it's not very small. So we get to the pump and there is a big bright green sign that reads, "OUT OF GAS". My heart sank. Dirk says run in and double check. So I do and the clerk says, "We are out but should get a delivery tomorrow!" Now we are riding on "E" at this point and must decide whether we try to head back to the slip or try another place that could possibly have gas. We decided to head for the slip. I still have faith that we can make it (I consider myself an optimist). Dirk doesn't think we will. Needless to say--WE DON'T!!! We were stuck in the middle, too far to swim or paddle. Of course, I imagine the worst--we will be here all night!!! My first reaction is to call my mom. Mom knows how to fix everything. Dirk informs me she can't help. She doesn't have a boat. I then decide I should call 911 and again Dirk informs me this is not an emergency (it is in my mind). I finally call the sheriff's department and then they call the game warden who will have to call me back. I decide to start waving down other boaters. After several failed attempts, a nice young couple stop and tow us back to Holiday Marina. Halfway there the game warden returns my call and was very relieved he did not have to come tow us in. So the moral of the story is always get gas before leaving the slip!!!

Bad Blogger

Hello Everybody! I am a really bad blogger. Life just got in the way. Anyway I am going to do better and try to post more often. Here's a quick update of what has been going on.

We have moved into our new almost complete house. We still need to complete minor things such as putting our shutters up, putting in bathroom accessories and knobs on the cabinets but nothing that is keeping us from living here and loving it. I will post pics as soon as we are finished.

Dirk and I just celebrated our 4 year anniversary--YEA! Time flies. We went to San Antonio for the weekend. We had a lot of fun hanging out together! When we were checking into our hotel we saw a celebrity--Bruce Mcgill--google him and you will know who he is. We were standing at the check in desk when we first saw him. Dirk and I both thought he looked really familiar but didn't know how. Then we got on the elevator with some other guests who knew who he was. After hearing his name, we still didn't know who he was or what he did. So we googled him and at that moment thought "Oh Yeah, I know who he is!" He is actually from San Antonio and was the grand marshall for the Fiesta Parade.
Here is a pic of him.

Congratulations to my good friend Janice who just had her second baby-William Maxwell!! Love ya Jano!!

I think that pretty much sums up my life right now--sounds kind of boring actually! I will do better and blog more!!!

A WHOLE NEW VIEW!

Yeah! I am so excited, we got our new windows in! They look so awesome. It looks like a new house from the outside. Before our house was so drab and now it is bright and cheery! Here is a picture of our new windows except ours our cream instead of white!

The electrician finally showed up and finished! Mack, our contractor, is coming on Monday to sheet rock! I finally feel like we are making some progress. I will try to upload some actual pictures of the house if I can! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Long time, No Blog!

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! It's been a while since I posted. We got our house finally!!! It is down to the studs right now! We have been working on it but it is somewhat of a waiting game because we hire someone and they do there job, then we wait till the next person can show. We are waiting on the electrician right now. Everyone cross your fingers and hope by Monday they are done so we can get sheet rock on the walls. I think when that happens it will somewhat resemble a house! I am so ready to move in!

On a different note, I want to wish Jeramy a very happy birthday! Jeramy turns the BIG 3-0 on Monday the 19th. Jeramy is a great friend and a lot of fun to hang out with. Jeramy, I am so glad you got to join our group--you better thank Wendi for that!!!! Hope you have a great day and I can't wait for your shin-dig on Saturday!

I will try to post more often! Have a great weekend!!!!
